Abstract: Spreading all over Japan and deeply rooting in Japanese culture, Shintoism and Buddhism both play critical roles in Japanese daily life. It is hard to imagine that a native- born Japanese can move to another life passage following neither Shintoism nor Buddhism. But it was from late Meiji to early Shiaowa that the early Japanese Muslims appeared under such circumstance. This paper treated questions as the following: How did they get familiar with Muslim; Why did they convert to Muslim? Who were they and were they truly believers? And what had the Japanese Muslims done in history? So on and so forth.
