Date: 3300–30 BCE
This is a table of significant events that occurred in Greek literary and cultural history. It includes the birth and death dates of prominent authors, artists, scholars, and scientists and the dates of their works. The table begins with the approximate date (750 BCE) by which the Greeks had adapted Phoenician script to create the Greek alphabet. The epic poets Homer and Hesiod are believed to have been writing shortly after this took place. The latest date on the table marks the death of the scientist Aristarchus of Samos in about 143 BCE. Since this is a relatively early date, the table does not include later Greek authors such as Plutarch (ca. 50–125 CE) or the satirist Lucian (ca. 115–ca. 180 CE).
